Meet Louise

Dr Louise Kirby is a general practitioner with over 30 years experience and extended skills in mental health. She is working with us as a GP counsellor and is not offering other general practice services. She has a special interest in working with adults, particularly women experiencing anxiety, depression and burnout.

Louise has broad medical experience and during her career also obtained a Diploma in Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology and an advanced Diploma in Emergency Medicine. She has worked as a rural GP for over 17 years including several years as a GP anaesthetist. This wide experience has meant that she has often cared for patients during the most stressful time in their lives.

She also understands the demands of working in a high pressure, high stakes environment. She has observed how patterns of thinking, responding and behaving in our stressful society can lead to psychological and physical suffering. This has prompted her to do extra training in mental health including Acceptance and commitment therapy and Cognitive behavioural therapy. She is also very interested in the effects of meditation on the brain and our overall health.
