Josh returns to Think Mental Health as one of our part-time Psychologists, currently working in both the private clinic and the Canberra Medicare Mental Health Centre, following a four-month placement in 2024 with us as part of his Psychology studies. Excited to be returning to the team, Josh enjoys finding creative and individualised ways to work with clients, and tailoring his approach so that they feel comfortable and supported during their time with him at Think Mental Health.

Originally from Sydney, Josh has spent the last eight years studying psychology in what he describes as a long academic journey to where he is today. Josh began his studies in medical science, then transferred to nursing before moving into psychology as an undergraduate.

It didn’t take long before Josh realised psychology was more aligned with his own personal values and what he wanted to achieve in the healthcare profession. What began as an initial pathway into medicine, has become something Josh is very passionate about and proud to be a part of.

After completing his Masters of Clinical Psychology at the University of Canberra, all while holding down several jobs – both in event management and blue collar fields – Josh chose to specialise in the field of mental health because he enjoys uncovering complex interpersonal issues, seeing the process of problem solving and finding creative and individualised ways to work with people.

Josh’s passion for mental health really shines in the way he approaches client relationships. Josh is a firm believer in individualised care, letting clients delve into their personal struggles and tailoring interventions rather than generalising. He focuses on ensuring that clients feel comfortable and supported, really listens to their needs, and strives to create a safe space where clients feel non-judged and where nothing is off limits to talk about.

One of the things Josh loves most about being a psychologist is being in a position where he is trusted to be let into people’s personal experiences. He finds it highly rewarding and a real honour and privilege to work together with that person on whatever their struggle is.

Josh returned to Think Mental Health after his initial placement in part due to Think’s communal and supportive atmosphere. He enjoys the collaborative approach at Think Mental Health, and is always seeking to fill knowledge gaps. If anything is outside of his expertise, he has no hesitation to reach out to Think’s team of experts to help find solutions. With this effective multi-disciplinary approach at Think Mental Health, Josh enjoys regular interaction and supervision with Think’s team of psychologists.
