Nick is a Psychologist at Think Mental Health, also working at the Canberra Medicare Mental Health Centre. Having joined the team in a non-clinical role in 2023, Nick recently stepped into clinical work after completing his Master of Psychology, and he is now available for appointments at Think Mental Health Clinic.

Nick’s path to psychology was anything but conventional. Leaving school with a passion for Ancient History and Politics, he spent time in corporate roles with a vague sense that a role in a historical field might be in his future. It was the people side of those jobs that changed his mind. He enrolled in a Graduate Diploma in Psychology, found his calling, and never looked back. He’ll still tell you he loves history, but psychology won out.

After joining the Medicare Mental Health Centre team in 2023, delivered by Think Mental Health, Nick built a strong familiarity with the service before completing his Masters and moving into a clinical role in 2025. That mix of on-the-ground experience and fresh training gives him a rounded perspective that serves both his clients and his colleagues.

What drew Nick to mental health was its universality. He sees it as a shared human experience that touches people from all walks of life, and that breadth is what motivates him. More than anything, it is the resilience he witnesses in the people he works with that keeps him going. He is constantly struck by the ways people find to meet life’s harder moments.

From the very first session, Nick’s approach is caring and curious. He focuses on creating a safe, comfortable environment and places a strong emphasis on choice, tailoring his approach to each person rather than applying a one-size-fits-all method. He is deliberate about working alongside clients, not directing them toward solutions they don’t believe in.

A highlight of Nick’s early clinical career was facilitating a Healthy Coping Group at the Tuggeranong Medicare Mental Health Centre. The six-week program helps people build healthier ways to manage life’s stressors and brought together participants from a wide range of backgrounds. For Nick, it was a clear reminder of what accessible, community-based mental health support can offer.

Outside of work, Nick is happiest on a weekend away with close friends, good food and time to properly unwind. Back in Canberra, you’ll find him reading, deep in a board game, or out on a trail run.
